The 'Best Served Chilled' Team

Name: Giles Greenslade
Raising Money For: Macmillan Cancer Relief

Hi, I’m Giles. I’m 33 years old and live in Wiltshire. After 7 years of competing in motorsport I decided in 2005 to try a different challenge and entered the 2006 Marathon des Sables. This was despite never before running even a half marathon. On finishing the race I immediately looked for a new challenge and came across the Polar Challenge race.

So from +50 to -50 degrees - it’ll certainly be different!

Name: Barney Franklin
Raising Money For: St Roses School For Special Needs Children

Hi there, my name is Barney and I work as a PE teacher in Gloucestershire. From an early age I was eager to rise to any physical challenges I was presented with, and this led me to joining the Army at the age of 17. I then spent 4 years serving with 1 PARA which was both challenging and rewarding.

Since then I have completed two round the world trips and have run numerous outdoor pursuits activities for the students at my school. I now feel that at the grand old age of 32 that I need to remember what it feels like to be pushed to my physical and mental limits.

The Polar Challenge seems the perfect way to do that with the added bonus of being able to experience one of the worlds most harsh and awe-inspiring environments.

Name: Steve Napier
Raising Money For: Macmillan Cancer Relief and The Afghanistan Trust

I am 37 years old and originally from Twickenham, Middlesex. I am a Major in the Parachute Regiment and have always had a keen interest in fitness and challenges.

I have run several mountain and road marathons, Toronto being the most recent in September 2006. I would like to raise money for the The Afghanistan Trust to help the men from 3 PARA who have recently been injured in Afghanistan.

I would also like to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research as several of my friends have had friends and family affected by this disease.

The chance of going to the North Pole is an opportunity that rarely comes round. Added to the extreme conditions the Pole has to offer the Polar Challenge also has the excitement of a race. I am very much looking forward to the challenge and all it brings.
